HNZPT Covid-19 information

Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga & the Covid Protection Framework (aka the Traffic Light System)

By December 10, 2021, all workers at and visitors to our heritage places must be fully vaccinated and present their Vaccine Pass to be checked by staff on entry. All our staff will be fully vaccinated from this date.

We consider that requiring full vaccination is the best way to ensure the well-being of our staff and communities, and to keep our properties accessible to as many as possible.

We came to this decision based on a Covid19 risk assessment survey and review as well as the advice and guidance from Government, the Ministry of Health, WorkSafe NZ and the Public Services Commission.

This decision applies to all staff, volunteers, contractors and visitors to our heritage places. Children under 12 will be exempt because they can’t currently be vaccinated.

We will continue to follow the advice and regulations of the government and will continue to review our policies as the Covid-19 situation evolves.

You can also visit many of our heritage places digitally via this website, and we have a growing section of our collection items online.

Red Light

At RED, action is needed to protect at-risk people and protect our health system from an unsustainable number of hospitalisations. For those of our heritage places and workplaces that are open at red, here’s how it works:

  • Enter using the My Vaccine Pass. Staff will check your My Vaccine Pass as you enter the building. This can be digital or printed.
  • Wear a mask. You must legally wear a face covering while inside.
  • Check in. You are required to check in. You can do this through the NZ COVID Tracer app or manually upon entry.
  • Maintain physical distancing. You must stay 1 meter from people not part of your immediate family and friend group.
  • Sanitise. Dispensers are located throughout properties and workplaces, and we’re also cleaning continually.
  • Follow Covid-19 health measures. Stay home if you’re sick, cover coughs with your elbow, and wash your hands regularly.
  • Guided tours: Group sizes will be managed to ensure physical distancing.
  • Events: All HNZPT events at our heritage places will operate as Vaccine Pass locations.
  • There may be capacity limits in place for the property or workplace at Red, when capacity is limited to 100 people based on 1-meter physical distancing.

At ORANGE, there will be community transmission, with pressure on our health system. The whole of health system is focussing its resources, but can manage primary care, public health, and hospitals. From December 10, 2021 Yes. Children under 12 are exempt, because they can’t currently be vaccinated.

Will you allow exemptions?

How will you check vaccination status?

We will use My Vaccine Pass to check vaccination status.

What if my phone has died, or I’ve forgotten my printed pass?

If you cannot show your Vaccine Pass, you will not be able to enter the heritage place.

Can I use a negative Covid-19 test instead of the vaccine pass?

Not under the current guidelines.

Can contractors visit HNZPT heritage places?
